One of the best costumes you can ever make or wear, especially for halloween is a Leatherface costume from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Leatherface Costume – Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Sure, you could go out and buy a Leatherface costume but that can be expensive and it will not be 100% movie accurate. If you want the very best Leatherface costume that is 100% accurate then you need to make one yourself. A Leatherface costume is relatively simple and you will only need to buy a couple of items to have a movie accurate Leatherface costume.
Leatherface Mask
 |
One of the main parts of any Leatherface costume is the Leatherface mask.
If you get this wrong then the costume is going to be completely wrong.
Thankfully there are plenty of reasonably priced movie accurate Leatherface mask’s available to buy. Since Leatherface seems to change his mask in each and every movie you need to decide which Leatherface incarnation you want to look like. We feel the original is always the best. |
Leatherface Chainsaw
 |
No Leatherface costume or Texas Chainsaw Massacre costume would be compete without a chainsaw.
You could of course use a real chainsaw for your Leatherface costume but this really would not be the safest option. You can however buy realistic looking toy chainsaws that will look just as good. |
Leatherface Apron
 |
In the early scenes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Leatherface wears a butchers apron.
The butchers apron that Leatherface wears is splattered with blood and is dirty. For your Leatherface costume buy a butchers apron then dirty it up with dabs of fake blood. |
Leatherface Shirt
 |
Throughout the The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Leatherface always wears a shirt.
The shirts that are worn by Leatherface are mens dress shirts but always look dirty and like they have not been washed and worn for weeks at a time.
For your DIY Leatherface costume choose a mans dress shirt but make it look as worn and dirt as possible complete with sweat stains and splatters of blood. |
Leatherface Tie
 |
For whatever reason Leatherface always wears a necktie. When he is seen wearing his butchers apron he wears his tie over the top of his butchers apron.
For your Leatherface costume buy a black tie like the one he wears and wear it with the collar of the shirt unfastened and the tie loose around the neck. The tie Leatherface wears has a strange stripe down it.
Make sure the tie is over the top of the butchers apron. |
Leatherface Padded Arm Bracers
 |
Especially in the more recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Leatherface movies the character is seen wearing leather padded arm braces.
They are not essential if you are basing your Leatherface costume on the original 1974 movie but they would still make your Texas Chainsaw Massacre costume look really cool. |
Leatherface Trousers
 |
Like his shirt Leatherface always wears smart mens trousers. He also aways seems to wear black color pants that match the blazer he is seen wearing in the later scenes of the original 1974 movie.
For your DIY Leatherface costume choose or buy a pair of smart black trousers but make sure you add stains and make them look lived in and un-ironed. |
Leatherface Blood
 |
There is no getting away from the fact that for the best Leatherface cosplay you are going to need some fake blood.
The fake blood should be splatted over your Leatherface fancy dress in a way that it would be as a result of the acts he engages in throughout any of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies.
Do not go overboard with the fake blood but make sure there is some visible on your clothing. |
